A lot of people choose to travel over the holidays, whether that is to see family or spend time with their immediate family and escape drama. Our family loves to travel, but it can be so expensive. Here are a few tips to help keep your expenses minimal when traveling.
- Use points for hotels or airfare. This can help keep costs lower or help you get free flights! If you book really early or get last minute deals, you can also save money.
- Stay with family or friends or check air bnb for cheaper accommodations.
- Travel on the actual holiday or close to it. I know people who do this, as flights tend to be cheaper on the actual holiday itself.
- Pack snacks! This is a life saver, especially if you have kids. It may work a bit easier if you’re driving rather than flying. Remember though, you need food and it can be very difficult to find open places to eat on holidays.
- Use the library for sources of entertainment! Your library may have passes to help you get into state parks or museums for cheap (or free!). You can also use your library to check out books, audiobooks, movies, and music.
- If driving, use the Gas Buddy app to help you find the cheapest fuel near you! It’s simple- just enter the type of fuel you’re looking for and give location permission and it will help you find cheap fuel!
- Use food app points to buy food at restaurants for cheap (or get it for free!). We’ve also traveled and bought groceries at our location so we weren’t eating out every meal. You can also get a hotel with a complimentary breakfast.
- Do your research! If you’re looking for fun activities, look them up and how to snag deals before you travel. This can save you a headache later and still allow you to have fun while on vacation!
However holidays look for you, whether you travel, stay home, get together with family, or don’t celebrate at all, I hope you can enjoy your time. Happy Holidays from my family to yours.
