In the world of internet, there are so many options for subscriptions.
As the world has changed from television viewing to a world of streaming services, you get to choose what your bill looks like!
Instead of cable television, a lot of people have moved to streaming services. There are so many options for streaming services – Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Paramount Plus, etc.
One of the nice things about streaming services is you can choose which one(s) you want or have interest in and simply pay for that. We have Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix. Our Hulu and Disney+ accounts are included in our phone bill, so we really only pay for Netflix. We also choose to not have the highest tier for Netflix, but instead, we have the middle tier, which saves us a few dollars every month. If we were pinching pennies even more, we’d drop to the lowest tier and just watch commercials. We all use to watch commercials on cable anyway. Some people also share accounts (be careful of this – some services do not allow it!). This can also be a helpful way to save money though, if you pay for one service and your friend pays for another- you both save money and benefit from each other’s accounts!
I have heard some people say they even alternate streaming services. So they cancel one for a few months and then re-subscribe to that streaming service and cancel another. This can be helpful if you only watch a couple of shows on a streaming service and it’s in between seasons. Another reason this can be helpful – companies like to keep their current customers, so they may send special deals to get you to re-subscribe. This happened to our family when we canceled Paramount Plus.
Here are three takeaways:
- Look into grouping streaming services with other family members or through other bills (like your phone bill)
- Negotiate the streaming services bills or check for “lower tiers”. Watching commercials is a good test in our patience anyway.
- Alternate streaming services for pinching pennies further!
