Thrifting

There is a lot to be said about thrifting. I know some people are all for it, while others are disgusted by it.

I’ll be honest, I didn’t grow up thrifting. It was something my parents didn’t do, but I became interested in it a few years ago when I learned more about sustainability.

There was a great thrift store just a mile from our apartment several years ago. I learned about it at work, as someone had mentioned the store had several Christmas trees. It was my first Christmas out of school and in this location. My (now) husband and I went to check it out and walked out with a beautiful Christmas tree (which we still use each year) and some ornaments (some of which we still have, some of which were re-donated when we moved just a few months later).

Children’s Clothing, Books, & More!

Whether you’re for thrifting or not, it is admittedly a great way to save money, especially when it comes to children’s clothing. We have a store called Once Upon A Child that we have used to buy our daughter clothes. Children grow so fast, sometimes they’re only able to wear an outfit once, sometimes they don’t have an opportunity to at all. This store buys and sells children’s clothes. You can sell clothes to them for cash or store credit to be used on different clothes or items as your child grows. We have loved thrifting for our daughter’s clothes. Sometimes we find pieces that are brand new! We have also found some really cool pieces that would be difficult (or impossible) to find elsewhere. We save money; she looks great!

The store also has books, shoes, toys, and other items you may need for a child! I’ve seen strollers and cribs even! For those on a tight budget, these are great options, as the store does a wonderful job ensuring that each piece is in excellent condition before they accept it. As mentioned before, some items are still brand new in the box and a fraction of what they would cost elsewhere.

Quick tip: It can also be worth it to follow your local thrift store on social media or other reward apps. Our Once Upon A Child recently did a $50 giveaway, which both my husband and I entered, and we won! That’s free money for us to use when we need more clothing items for our girl!
