Buy Nothing groups are groups (often on social media) that allow people to post items that they have that they’re getting rid of and/or allows people to ask for items that they may need. It can be so helpful to others in your community and you can use it too!
Buy nothing groups can allow you to declutter some of the stuff in your life that is no longer needed. That could be books, baby items, house items (dishes, pots, pans), and so much more! I recently picked up a big stack of children’s books from someone in my town that had three boxes and a table full of books they were getting rid of. My child will benefit from those, and I even got an Easter one for her Easter basket!
The buy nothing group I recently joined for my community will even have food sometimes that maybe the person’s family didn’t care for (I saw a cheeto mac & cheese box recently that the person’s children didn’t like), or maybe they accidentally got on their grocery order and it wasn’t the right item.
If you have a group for your town or community, I’d encourage you to join it. Even if you don’t feel like you need anything, the group can give you ideas on things you could declutter in your house to simplify your life and benefit someone else’s! I like this idea a bit better than donating them, as it doesn’t require someone else to purchase these items and I can directly help someone else in my community.
Please be cautious when using social media and I always recommend meeting in a public place for safety reasons. However, if you take the right steps, these groups can be beneficial both ways; giving and taking.
